Research Project - Marvelous Designer

For this semester's research project, I decided to work on a costume project using Marvelous Designer.

This is the concept art from Junggeun Yoon that I am using for the project.

To start with Marvelous Designer, I did some research earlier and notice that MD is more of a simulation program than a Modeling program. In order to get to the result of simulating realistic clothing, I need to understand clothing patterns, which is the most important process of creating assets in MD.

For example, for the shirt, I have to break the sleeves, collar, front and the back into symmetrical patterns and sew them in order. Same with the pants. Interestingly, with the symmetrical patterns I created,  I could still use pins to pin the cloth on to the mannequin to create asymmetrical look.

Also, the simulation's also not 100% symmetrical.

After getting a close result in MD, I moved the obj files to Zbrush for further sculpting also creating more assets (including bags, belts, bandages, etc.) to match more to the concept art.

And worked on resurfacing and UVs in Maya.

Worked on textures in Substance and rendered.
